Passage 2 | 2002 年 1 月四级阅读真题 | ||
Foxesand farmers have never got on well. These small dog-like animals havelong been accused of killing farm animals. They are
officiallyclassified as harmful and farmers try to keep their numbers down byshooting or poisoning them.
Farmerscan also call on the services of their local hunt to control the foxpopulation. Hunting consists of pursuing a fox across
thecountryside, with a group of specially trained dogs, followed by menand women riding horses. When the dogs eventually catch
thefox, they kill it or a hunter shoots it.
Peoplewho take part in hunting think of it as a sport; they wear a specialuniform of red coats and white trousers, and follow
strictcodes of behavior. But owning a horse and hunting regularly isexpensive, so most hunters are wealthy.
Itis estimated that up to 100,000 people watch or take part in foxhunting. But over the last couple of decades the number of
peopleopposed to fox hunting, because they think it is brutal ( 残酷的),has risen sharply. Nowadays it is rare for a hunt to pass off
withoutsome kind of confrontation ( 冲突)between hunters and hunt saboteurs (阻拦者).Sometimes these incidents lead to violence,
butmostly saboteurs interfere with the hunt by misleading riders anddisturbing the trail of the fox's smell, which the dogs follow.
Noisyconfrontations between hunters and saboteurs have become so commonthat they are almost as much a part of hunting
asthe pursuit of foxes itself. But this year supporters of fox huntingface a much bigger threat to their sport. A Labour Party Member
ofthe Parliament, Mike Foster, is trying to get Parliament to approve anew law which will make the hunting of wild animals with dogs
illegal. If the law is passed, wild animals like foxes will be protected under the ban in Britain. 66. Rich people in Britain have been hunting foxes_______. - 4 - |

A. by resorting to violence | B. by confusing the fox hunters | 【答案】 B |

Movementof Population 利弊型作文
Nowadays, with the development of modern society, there has been a steady risein the number of movement of population. This
phenomenonhas aroused considerable concern from the whole society.
Justas a coin has its two sides, the movement of population is noexception. It has brought about many benefits. First and
